Abstract
Agriculture in Kenya has the potential to alleviate rural poverty, but banks often deny credit due to risks. Large buyers of agricultural produce offer short-term marketable commodities financing contracts, acting as financial intermediaries. This paper presents evidence on how structured commodity finance can maximize profits and reduce poverty levels.
